The CBA grants over $1 million to San Antonio Agencies in 2017

In 2017,  the Charity Ball Association and its generous supporters donated over $1 million to twenty-four San Antonio agencies. Funds were awarded for construction, technology, specialized equipment, educational materials and for children's health and well-being.  We salute these twenty-four charities committed to improving the lives of the children of San Antonio.

 

THE CHARITY BALL ASSOCIATION 2017 GRANT RECIPIENTS

 

 

ARTS SAN ANTONIO

Mission Statement: To entertain, enrich and educate the people of San Antonio and South Texas.

Project: After school program at the Ella Austin Community Center.

 

 

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF SOUTH TEXAS

Mission Statement: To provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change lives for the better, forever.

Project: Expand training from four per month to eight per week enabling Big Brothers Big Sisters to better serve more families.

 

 

BLESSSED SACRAMENT ACADEMY

Mission Statement: To educate and encourage children, youth and adults with compassion and respect.  Through our diverse programs, we offer hope to the vulnerable and give them the tools and support to become contributing members of society.

Project: Fund the Parents Academy, a pilot program of innovative parenting workshops that support and empower parents facing the challenges of raising children in today's busy world.

Project: Much needed renovation to the Lovelace Infant and Toddler Emergency Shelter.

Project: A new playground at the Tapia Building.

Project: Provde teachers from Title 1 schools with the training, tools, support and resources to implement and teach the Enginnering is 

Elementary program in their classrooms.

Mission Statement: To serve as a catalyst for change, supporting youth, individuals and families by providing excellent community services to overcome the impact of economic poverty.

Project: Classroom renovations and the addition of five security cameras in childcare classrooms.

 

GUARDIAN HOUSE

Mission Statement: To SHIELD children from family conflict, to PROMOTE positive parenting and relationships, and to keep children and families CONNECTED.

Project:  Additional equipment and updates to technology will be provided to the family areas of the house.

 

 

HOUSE OF NEIGHBORLY SERVICE

Mission Statement: To provide opportunities which encourage, eduate and empower the families of our Westside community.

Project: Renovate the KID's Place main classroom which will provide a safe and stimulating environment for the children enrollled in the center.

Mission Statement:  To develop character and resiliency in children by providing innovative, exciting programs and structured alternative activities that are designed to help them succeed.

Project: Remodel two children's bathrooms in the main hall of the building that functions as the central facility for multiple youth oriented programs.

Mission Statement: To create and strentghen healthy communities by providing affordable, service-enriched housing for individuals and families who are economicallly poor. 

Project: Provide for the purchase of fifty Fire HD Kids Edition Tablets to be used by children living in the Artisan at Willow Springs low income housing.

 

 

MISSION ROAD DEVELOPMENTAL CENTER

Mission Statement: MRDC is a community-based, church sponsored agency with a Call from God to minister to persons with intellectual developmental disabilites by preparing them in a variety of settings to live as independently as possible and challenging them to achieve their individual potential.

 

Project: New swings for the Swing Play Therapy program.

 

 

MORGAN'S WONDERLAND

Mission Statement: To provide a safe, clean and beautiful environment free of physical and economic barriers that all individuals - regardless of age, special need or disability - can come to and enjoy.

Project:  The purchase of water tolerable wheelchairs for accessibility to Morgan's Inspiration Island, the new ultra-accessible waterpark at Morgan's Wonderland.

 

 

RESPITE CARE OF SAN ANTONIO

Mission Statement: Provide services to enhance the stability and nurturing opportunities of families caring for a loved one with a developmental disability.

Project: Resurfacing of the Davidson Respite House Playground.

 

 

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES OF SAN ANTONIO

Mission Statement:  To operate charitable facilities, providing safe, temporary living conditions for critically ill children and their families while receiving medical treatment in the San Antonio area. Providing a home away from home where families in similar circumstances can interact, lend and receive mutual support.

Project: Construct and furnish the game room in the new House #4.

 

 

ST. PETER-ST. JOSEPH CHILDREN'S HOME

Mission Statement: To be a safe and loving refuge for children in crisis and to accompany them on their journey to healing and wholeness, breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect one child at a time.

Project: Fund important renovation to the Flores Dorm and Kiddie Kottage emergency shelters.

 

SAN ANTONIO LIGHTHOUSE FOR THE BLIND

Mission Statement: To empower people who are blind or visually impaired.

Project: The purchase of a Braille embosser and robotics kits for their children's program.

 

SAN ANTONIO METROPOLITAN MINISTRY, INC.

Mission Statement:  SAMMinistries is an interfaith ministry whose mission is to help the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless attain self-sufficiency by offering, with dignity and compassion, shelter, housing and services. SAMMinistries also provides volunteers opportunities to be renewed and fulfilled as they serve.

Project: A new state-of-the-art playground to be used by homeless children living in transitional housing.

 

 

SNACK PAK 4 KIDS SA

Mission Statement: Hunger impacts a child’s ability to learn. SP4KSA provides weekend food supplements to serve the needs of chronically hungry children, addressing the relationship between food insecurity and learning.

 

Project: Funding will build capacity to serve many more food deprived children. It will be used to purchase significant additional warehouse equipment and portable totes to increase ability to deliver the nutritious food. It will also fund an upgrade to the website that will increase visibility, funding opportunities and volunteer access, attracting more people to support the mission.

 

SPINA BIFIDA TEXAS

Mission Statement: To improve the lives of those affected by Spina Bifida and to promote its prevention through Folic Acid awareness.

Project: Materials for garments made and modified by high school students for children with disabilities and shown at the FashionABLE show will be provided by the CBA. In addition, funds will also be used to purchase a new computer and underwrite the FashionABLE show.

Mission Statement: To ensure that children with severe multiple disabilities have the opportunity to benefit from therapeutic educational intervention so that they can participate actively in life. 

Project: Fund the needed upgrade of protocols for facility cleanliness, for replacement appliances and other materials used to provide its clients with a safe, hygienic environment.

Mission Statement: The Witte promotes lifelong learning through innovative exhibitions, programs, and collections in natural history, science and South Texas heritage.

 

Project: Funding will be donated to create The Charity Ball Association Riverside Picnic Park which will provide a safe, pleasant environment along the San Antonio River and will serve 100,000 students annually.

 

 

 

 Youth Orchestras of San Antonio (YOSA)

Mission Statement:  To enhance education, enrich the community, and transform lives by pursuing excellence in classical music in a stimulating, nurturing, and fun environment that is equally accessible to all youth.

Project: Funding for the purchase of new woodwind instruments to accommodate the growth of YOSA programs.

Mission statement:  YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

Project: Renovate showers in the swimming pool locker rooms and convert lighting to money-saving LED bulbs at the Olga Madrid Child Development Center.
